January 23, 2026 - The Comal ISD Board of Trustees approved the academic calendars for the next two consecutive years, 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, during its regular meeting Jan. 22.
A few of the highlights for both calendars include the start dates of Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, and Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2027; spring break, March 8-12, 2027, and March 6-10, 2028; last day of school, May 27, 2027, and May 25, 2028.
Other noteworthy dates include Thanksgiving week and early release days on both academic years.
This is the first time the district has approved two years of academic calendars. The two-year calendar adoption will help bring predictability to families, teachers and students. Families will be able to plan vacations in advance, and educators will be able to facilitate long-term instructional planning and staff development that meet the needs of Comal ISD students.
“We were able to adopt a two-year calendar for a few simple, yet crucial reasons: we have an engaged community that deeply cares and is deeply invested in our schools, and we have a current academic calendar (2025-2026) that is effective and popular,” says Dr. Ben Peacock, director of secondary leadership, who spearheaded this year’s calendar development.
That engaged community is part of the District Educational Improvement Council (DEIC) which consists of Comal ISD administrators, staff, parents, students, business leaders and community members. It is the DEIC that provides feedback when developing the academic calendar. The adoption process begins in September with a final recommendation made to the Board of Trustees in December.
